Dear Friends of Warm Hearts:
Thank you for your financial support of Warm Hearts of Douglas County, Inc. and our annual fund raising campaign. Without the support of our donors, we could not have provided the following emergency home heating fuel assistance last winter!
- Warm Hearts assisted 526 low income households consisting of 1,334 individuals struggling to pay the ever-rising costs of heating fuel for their homes in Lawrence and Douglas County.
- Among those assisted were single parent families, families with children, senior citizens and others whose total individual household income was more than 50% below our poverty guidelines.
- The average assistance approved by Warm Hearts per household was $202.62 with all payments made to either a utility company or vendor providing the heating fuel to each household
This winter, Black Hills Energy (formerly Aquila) and the supplier of natural gas in Lawrence, has agreed to again match dollar-for-dollar, all donations generated by our Warm Hearts fund raising campaign.
To ensure each tax deductible contribution received by Warm Hearts is eligible for a dollar-for-dollar match by Black Hills, we ask that your checks be made payable to BLACK HILLS CARES and that you mail your check to Warm Hearts of Douglas County, Inc., PO BOX 1555, Lawrence, KS 66044-8555.
Warm Hearts is an all-volunteer effort with no expenses for a staff or office. Our annual campaign expenses are paid by a single donor organization and every dollar of donations received by Warm Hearts of Douglas County, Inc. will go towards providing emergency fuel assistance for those applicants who qualify by satisfying our established guidelines.
Your generous donation will make it possible for Warm Hearts to assist low-income households in Lawrence and Douglas County this winter. Without support from donors like you, the efforts of Warm Hearts of Douglas County, Inc. will fall short in being able to assist those families in greatest need of emergency fuel assistance this winter!
Alone and afraid.
That’s how I felt as I looked from the heating bill in my hands to the anxious faces of my two little girls. I am disabled and on a fixed income, but I take pride in meeting my obligations. I had never asked for help. But now, as a growing number of families are realizing, I felt I had no choice. I turned to Warm Hearts of Douglas County.
Warm Hearts is the long-standing, highly respected non-profit agency that last winter provided financial assistance to more than 1,000 people living in 405 qualifying Lawrence and Douglas County households with payment of their home heating bill. Our community is known for its spirit of selfless giving and mutual support. We need one another. Right now, Warm Hearts needs you. Please help by making your tax-deductible donation to this vital cause today.
Thanks to Warm Hearts and the miracle of giving, I wasn’t forced to choose between buying the medicine I need or paying for heating fuel to keep my children safe and warm. Situations change quickly, for better or for worse. I’m grateful to say that recently I was able to make a small but meaningful donation of my own.
Who will need Warm Hearts this winter? A co-worker? A neighbor? A relative? A friend? I am so deeply grateful to Warm Hearts and people like you for helping my family and for remembering the elderly, the ill, and many other families and individuals in unfortunate situations.
Please consider this critical need. Today, you can make a difference.
Sincerely, A grateful Warm Hearts recipient
Very important — Double Your Donation At No Additional Cost To You!
Please make your check payable to "Black Hills Cares" — not Warm Hearts. Black Hills Energy, your local natural gas service provider, will match the amount of your donation through the company’s Black Hills Cares program. But only if you make the check out to Black Hills Cares.
Warm Hearts will then dedicate the total in its entirety to energy assistance for qualifying local residents — the agency’s annual campaign is funded through a grant and all associated work and management are done by volunteers.
Please don’t forget…double your donation with a check payable to Black Hills Cares and mail it in the enclosed envelope to:
